Yeast Infection Prevention

Yeast infection prevention is a topic that you are interested in if you have ever been miserable with a yeast infection.

The bad news is that there is not a “magical formula” for preventing them, but the good news is that there are things that lessen your chance of getting one!

Obviously, you cannot control hormone changes that come with pregnancy, menstruation, or menopause.

If you are currently going through these hormonal changes, that is all the more reason for you to try some of these tips:

  1. De-stress. Though some stress in life is unavoidable, it may help to get rid of avoidable stress. Stress has so many affects on our bodies, one of which is weakening our immune systems. Obviously, you are more susceptible to infections and other diseases when your immune system is not strong.

  2. Get your beauty sleep. Adequate sleep will help your immune system to be stronger and give your body the strength it needs to fight off infection.

  3. Eat a balanced diet. Another way of boosting your immune system is being sure that you are getting all of the nutrients you need in your diet, especially your fruits and vegetables!

  4. Wear loose-fitting clothing. Since tight clothing can promote the growth of the yeast, you may want to be sure that you are wearing loose clothing.

  5. Be sure your clothing is dry. After swimming or working out, it is best to change into dry clothing as quickly as possible to ensure a clean and dry environment.

  6. Don’t douche. Douching has been linked to higher incidence of yeast infections, so don’t do it!

  7. Go with unscented. Everything from soaps to pads, use the unscented version.

  8. Eat yogurt.Though not a proven fact, there may be some benefits of eating yogurt. Just be sure that it contains live and active cultures of acidophilus.

  9. Control your diabetes. If you have diabetes, control your blood sugar level, since uncontrolled blood sugar increases your risk of yeast infection.

If you have recurring yeast infection in pregnancy, you are not alone! For yeast infection prevention, take care of your body with nutrition during pregnancy and stress minimization.
